Sun Microsystems and NVIDIA Form Professional Graphics Alliance

Sun Microsystems, Inc. and NVIDIA Corporation today announced that they have joined forces to deliver leading NVIDIA QuadroŽ graphics solutions on Sun Java? Workstations running Solaris?, Windows or Linux operating systems. Through this alliance, Sun has bundled NVIDIAŽ technology with its recently announced Sun Java Workstations W1100z and W2100z, based on the AMD Opteron? processor with Direct Connect Architecture. Sun is committed to delivering NVIDIA technologies with future Sun products, and the two companies are working together to tune and optimize the OpenGL implementation for Solaris on x86 and deliver an open, standards-based development environment.

VeriSign Selects Solaris x86 Operating System for Performance, Value and Security

"VeriSign supports Sun's Solaris x86 OS, and their extension onto the AMD/Intel platform. Aside from the augmented levels of performance, Sun's Solaris platform enables VeriSign to extract great value from our intelligent infrastructure," said Ari Balogh, senior vice president of operations and infrastructure, VeriSign. "We plan to deploy Solaris on hundreds of Opteron servers in our data centers, where initial tests have already proven reliability and substantial reductions in TCO."
