Sun Ships Intel-Based Galaxy Rack Servers
Seven months after inking a joint development and OEM agreement with Intel, the engineers at Sun Microsystems have put out a second-generation of "Galaxy" X64-based servers that make use of the latest quad-core Xeon processors from Intel. The machines represent another leap in performance, density, and efficiency compared to the initial Opteron-based Galaxy machines from two years ago, and very likely preview what future "Barcelona" Rev F Opteron Galaxy boxes will look like. IBM to Sell Solaris on x86
On Thursday, August 16, Sun announced it is entering into an OEM agreement with IBM to distribute the Solaris Operating System and Solaris Subscriptions for select x86-based IBM System X servers and BladeCenter servers to clients through IBM's routes to market. More: Sun Microsystems
